The Chairman of the North-Central Zone of Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Danladi Chiroma, has said at least one herder lost his life while 53 coŵs belonging to his members were killed in Agatu area of Benue State.

Daily Trust reports that the police last week confirmed that five people were killed in fresh attacks on some communities in the state including Agatu natives.
State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said at a press conference, shortly after meeting with leaders of herders in Makurdi, that two of the five people were killed by criminal elements who attacked the Agatu village.
But, Chiroma who spoke to our correspondent by telephone alleged that the animals were killed during an attack on the cattle rearers in Agatu few days ago by unknown gunmen.
He however stressed the need for peace to reign as authorities are making frantic efforts to end crisis in the state.
The zonal chairman, though, noted that he was not aware of the killing of two natives in the area, which may have allegedly triggered reprisal, called for caution so that the crisis does not snowball.
Meanwhile, the Police commissioner, when contacted told our correspondent that he would issue a statement on the matter at a later time, insisting that he would state the facts to buttress the reality.
On his part, the member representing the Agatu constituency at the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Sule Audu, said he was not aware of any attack on herders in the area as he added that cattle had been destroying the farms of the Agatu people but they have been reporting the matter to the appropriate quarters and not taking laws into their hands.
