The road is dreaded by transporters
Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) have said they have lost their members to armed robbery attacks on the Keffi-Bade road over the years.
According to them, motorists, passengers, petty traders, farmers, Fulani milkmaids and even local residents along the road were not spared by the armed robbers-cum-kidnappers.
They, however, noted that the death of the former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh, who was shot dead on the road has exposed the security threat in the area.
Armed bandits have been robbing, wounding and killing innocent people for years and that the attacks intensified about a year ago around the sharp bend around Unguwan Mangwaro village near Tudu Uku community, before Zango Gitata, along the Keffi-Bade road in Nasarawa State.
Most of the people interviewed said they always prayed for safe passage when approaching the point where Air Chief Marshall Badeh was shot dead. This, they said was because the area was bushy with long grasses by the roadside thereby giving criminals a perfect place to attack unsuspecting travelers.
A senior official of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) who preferred anonymity said they have lost about four drivers in recent months.
Efforts to get the reaction of the government of Nasarawa State proved abortive.
