The National Chairman of the Accord Party, Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, has dismissed reports that the party has adopted President Bola Tinubu as its candidate for the 2027 general elections, insisting that no endorsement has been made.

Briefing journalists on Thursday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Mgbudem clarified that Accord’s presidential candidate would emerge only after its primaries.

“Accord has not endorsed any candidate. If there is any endorsement, the media will hear it directly from us.

“We have just concluded our NEC meeting and are working on modalities for the 2027 elections. Our timetable and nomination fees have been released, and aspirants are already purchasing forms,” he said.

He said at this stage, all interested individuals remain aspirants.

“You cannot declare anyone a candidate yet. A candidate will only emerge after the primaries,” he added.

Mgbudem also addressed claims by the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Professor Christopher Imumolen, who recently staged a protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), seeking recognition as national chairman of the party.

The Accord chairman maintained that Imumolen was expelled from the party on November 20, 2024, and accused him of seeking publicity. He challenged him to present any valid court order supporting his claims.

“For the avoidance of doubt, there is no leadership dispute or faction within Accord, and there is no court order in Imumolen’s favour. If such an order existed, it would have been publicly displayed,” Mgbudem said.

He assured that the party remains united and focused on upcoming governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti states, as well as preparations for the 2027 general elections, noting that it would not be distracted by “unfounded claims.”
