The federal government last week released two lists of alleged looters in the past administration.
Daily Trust asked some Nigerians of their thoughts on the lists.

The government has not done well. Listing names without convicting them has nothing to do with the economy of the country. Listing their names is not enough. Get them convicted to serve as deterrent to others. I think it’s just to indict the opposition party to portray them as corrupt. Shortlisting is not the way but rather, let them face justice for their crimes.

I feel the reason behind the release of list of looters is to stop potential looters and stop others from embarrassing themselves in future. I think the government’s decision to release the list is to identify the looters. I also think they did this as a campaign strategy so that the APC can have an edge in the forthcoming general elections.

I think the federal government did this to make the looters return the money to the treasury. It will help alleviate the suffering and another angle is that now that they’re about conducting another election, they’re trying to win votes for their party.

It shows the government’s ability to make us believe that truly, our money was stolen by a few people for their own benefits and not for the benefit of the masses. By releasing their names, it makes those who stole from the government known. I think it is for proper investigation to prove that these people truly stole from the country. That’s why it took long before the list was finally made public.

I feel the list is meant to expose whose that stole from government. But it’s not only by releasing the list but rather ensuring that the money is recovered and used appropriately. This is a move to win the hearts of voters for the benefit of the party in power.

The government is biased, all of them are the same, the looters and the people in government are the same. There are some people who should be in the list but they are not there. I believe the reason behind it is to victimize some people who refused to cooperate with government and for those in other political parties.
