I don’t begrudge any Nigerian youth the opportunity to get a job, especially in these hard times. But whenever I think about the much-trumpeted police recruitment, during which 10,000 new cops will be employed, I can’t help but feel sad. It seems to me a perfect time for half-baked people to once more join the ranks of our already-rotten police force. Not all policemen are bad, yes, but honestly it seems like bad cops are the majority. And recruitment en masse certainly seems like a way for more bad eggs to creep in. I do hope I’m proven wrong and pleasantly surprised.
