‘What I love about Ramadan’

Thurayya Ali Umar is JSS 2 student of I-Scholars Academy, Gwarinpa, Abuja. The 11 year-old shares her thoughts on what she thinks of Ramadan.
She defines Ramadan as the month in which every mature Muslim is to fast and goes on to say that, “fasting is an act of abstaining from food, drinks and sexual intercourse.”
Miss Umar who said her parents encouraged her to start fasting about two years ago and sometimes fasts from 8am to 6.45pm, said she understands that fasting has a lot of importance during Ramadan because, “It brings us closer to our Lord, Allah, as well as it bein gone of the pillars of Islam.”
She added that “Ramadan makes us refrain from involving ourselves in bad actions.During this time, Allah opens the gate of paradise (Al-Jannah) and closes the gate of hell fire.”
According to what she has learnt from her parents and Islamic teachers, “During Ramadan Allah always forgives our sins, but I also know that this does not mean we should continue sinning. He also rewards us.”
One of the most pleasurable aspects of Ramadan for her is sharing with the needy because, “during Ramadan Allah wants us to feel what the poor and needy feel and I love to give the little I have.”
