Since his appointment as Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption (PACAC), Professor Itse Sagay has embarked on a vendetta and diatribe on any perceived enemy and anyone who disagrees with the move and policies of President Muhammadu Buhari.

While little has been heard about other members of the 7-man committee, Sagay has positioned himself as the attack dog for Buhari, competing with Femi Adesina and many other media aides of Buhari. Severally, he has displayed flagrant disregard for the democratic institutions of the nation and constitutional authority. Probably we need to remind ourselves that Sagay is supposed to be a Professor of Law.

It is at this point that one would be forced to ask the pertinent question; what is supposed to be the job of Sagay and his committee? Were they not given the brief of their work on appointment by the President? Have they not outlived their relevance and purpose?

When appointed, we were informed that the job of PACAC is to advise the Buhari administration on the prosecution of the war against corruption and the implementation of required reforms in Nigeria’s criminal justice system.

Three years on, where are the reforms? How many of those accused and indicted of corruption in the Buhari administration have been prosecuted? How has this government prosecuted the anti-corruption war better than previous administrations? Where are the results of Sagay’s committee?

Sagay has abandoned the goal of PACAC to advise and design reforms, he has turned a rabid attack dog.

We need to start asking Sagay questions about the activities of his committee since its inauguration. Any committee with no impact after three years should be dissolved and stop living large on tax payers money, while also insulting the tax payers. Enough is enough.
