From the controversy trailing the funds appropriated to him by the Senate, through the controversy surrounding the theft of some DDC machines upon their arrival to the country to the current hitches being experienced across the country as Nigerians register ahead of the general elections, the no-nonsense university don is now getting acclimatised with the issues on ground.

What is imperative is for the INEC chief to brace up to the challenges of getting to the roots as well as nipping in the bud any attempt of sabotaging the process by some politicians, media reports indicated that some highly-placed politicians in the ruling party were cornering some machines for their personal use.

Also, the INEC should exert its power by telling the truth to whoever is trying to play pranks with his activities by exposing any clandestine moves to dictate the pace of the electioneering season. I found Jega’s recent declaration that any voters register done without finger print as void as well as the fact that only political parties with candidates will be published on the ballot papers as approrpiate. It is a good step towards the right direction.
