I see nothing wrong with her appointment. It’s a good thing she is a female and 40 is a fair age. I just hope Buhari who appointed her is not making a mistake like he did with most of his ministers. He claimed she is very experienced for the job. We are yet to see that. But critically speaking, must he favour the northerners more?

Aishah Ahmad at 40 is young for the job of Deputy Governor of the CBN by today’s standards, inn a country where the commanding heights of politics and economy seems to centre on connections and influence. She has worked with Diamond Bank, Zenith Bank and Stanbic Bank and from my own research, she has gotten some valuable experience. My question is, are there no more qualified individuals than her? Is this just another pay back story or is this true federalism? In my own opinion, I say let’s give her a chance and support her. Time will tell if this is another failed promise of change or another success story.

I think politics played a very strong role and it’s unhealthy for the development of a country and dangerous to our economic growth. I want to believe there are other staff within CBN who are well qualified for the position because I learnt the promotion that led to her being the deputy governor was done within 24 hours. Where is that done? It is unacceptable.

I am not against her being the Deputy Governor of CBN because she has 20 years’ experience. She has worked with Stanbic Bank, Diamond Bank and Zenith Bank and some other international banks. Her age does not matter. By the time she is 50 years or 60, she must have achieved something. This is a good thing for females. I do not believe there is a conspiracy in the appointment. We should give her a try and allow the younger ones practice their profession.

I don’t think the right of the President is questionable with regards to the power to appoint. The institution is the apex leading organization, not just for its independence on monetary issues and implementation for the nation, but its decisions which resonates across the borders and beyond. Hence, persons selected for the position of Deputy Governor needs to possess the respect, authority, proven pedigree and ability to envision strategic leadership for the country’s financial system development.
The nominee, Aisha Ahmad has cut her teeth in the banking sector over the years and has also attained the prestigious CIA membership. These are solid achievements. By and large, there may be misgivings as there are several senior members within and outside the CBN. But, her nomination does have its positive angle, with the disposition she’s coming with which will rub on and translate to a robust policy engagement that will enrich the economy.

The Monetary Policy Committee requires economic and finance experts. These people are fit and come from different rich backgrounds and areas of specialization. There is a person with debt management policy experience who will readily understand the implications of monetary policy on the debt market and economy, there is another person with UNDP background who has knowledge on poverty alleviation issues and how monetary policy affects economic policies and development. The deputy governor has a background that shows she’s a round peg in a round hole.

Having read the profile of Aisha Ahmad, regardless of any ulterior motive, I think she might be capable of handling the financial space she is assigned to with her 20 years of practical and significant banking sector experience, alongside holding master’s degree in Finance and Management from a prestigious university. If she wants to save Nigeria from more financial and economic recession I believe she will. I am so overwhelmed with disappointment when I read people’s comments concerning her age, where some say she is too young to get involved in CBN matters. My question to such people is “when will you grow up?.” Today Nigerians are crying for young leaders, tomorrow we are complaining that young minds are being appointed. It’s high time we allow Nigeria to be handled by young minds who are qualified with required experience.

Prior to her appointment, she was promoted to the position of executive director in Diamond Bank. The numbers don’t add up. Mr. President, the north were not the only people that voted for you, so please be fair in your appointments. Stop all these one-sided appointments.

She deserves it based on her qualifications and experience. The bank administrator’s that nominated her must have known her strength. For a woman at 40 to become the deputy governor, it is commendable. I do not have a problem with her age, even if she is six years old, as long as she has the experience. I went through her CV and she is fit for the position. It’s even a good thing to create room for the younger generation.
