Recently the Peoples Democratic Party apologised to Nigerians for their performance in the 16 years they had been in power. Daily Trust asked Nigerians what they make of it.

If PDP feels it did not do well in 16 years and a different government came in, and so far, their impact is not felt in all sectors by the people, then the need to apologize is necessary. If they did well, probably, they may have remained in power. So, it was their performance that brought in a worste performance.

They are trying to take advantage of the internal crisis in APC to get majority of Nigerians to sympathies with them. The same thing happened in 2015 with the ruling party, APC. They took advantage of the internal crisis in the PDP. This is another way of deceiving Nigerians.

Injustice, corruption and nepotism is the order of the day in this government. The APC promised to tackle corruption and insecurity, and also improve our economy but to no avail. I think since the PDP has realised its mistake, they would do everything possible to improve the living standard of Nigerians. However, I doubt if Nigerians will forgive the PDP at this time. I am of the view that they should be forgiven because the APC, which we all expected will salvage Nigeria, has also failed woefully.

There were only mistakes in some quarters but not “bad leadership” as erroneously concluded. Besides, the three years of APC are worse than the 16 years of PDP. In the so-called 16 years of PDP, 89 per cent of APC cohorts were part of it.

I think we should not accept it. Same old story. We have heard this for long. Honestly, Buhari is a victim of APC and PDP. I feel sorry for him. To me, APC and PDP are the same thing and I even pity the next president of Nigeria because he will face the same thing Buhari is facing. We the masses are the problem of this country. For instance, if your car gets spoiled and you need to fix it, we go for the best not minding tribe or religion, but when it comes to politics, we allow them use us. Change must come from us and not any political party.

It is nice that they are willing to apologise. But I think Nigerians will need time to absorb the apology and confirm that it is not just because of 2019 by still looking at other options until the party proves they mean it.

You reap what you sow. The PDP is now apologizing for their wrong doings, after 16 years in power. Nigeria’s democracy is gradually growing. Our eyes are open now. The PDP is now an opposition party and they are trying to use every possible means to cover up their mess and get people to vote them back to power. That is why it is good to be good.

From the religious perspective, particularly Islam, one of the conditions of an acceptable repentance is that one should return whatever he or she illegally acquired. So, I think PDP’s apology can only be acceptable to Nigerians if it is backed by willingness to refund funds believed to have been illegally acquired by its members. Having said that, I think it is a good thing for our democracy that they apologised.
