What to consider when buying blender

Function
There are different types of blenders, while some perform a certain kind of function, others perform multiple and even complex functions . You have to consider if you want one basically for blending, pureeing, stirring and mixing tasks or which is specifically for vegetables , seeds, soup or cut meat, and even ice cream, among others, or that can perform multiple functions also called multifunction blenders. Some multifunction blenders are powerful and can be used for chopping and processing and have commercial grade units and replaceable blades.
Portability
You have to consider if you want a portable blender or not. A very portable type is the immersion blender. This type of blender has swirling blade at one end. Although it may not perform the function of some other blenders, it is usually convenient and portable. Immersion or hHand blenders are different from jar blenders. Often referred to as stick blenders, they offer the convenience of blending, pureeing and mixing right in a bowl or hot pot on the stove. With a smaller blade foot, they can more easily handle smaller amounts. They’re compact and easily stored in a drawer and some models have handy wall racks. Available in electric or cordless power they are ideal for pureeing cooked foods, creaming soups, blending a drink and other uses.
Jar type
The container or jar that come with blenders are  usually plastic, glass or stainless steel. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. Stainless steel looks more attractive and is more durable than other types but it can be easily dented if you don’t know how to use it properly.
Blenders with glass jars do not make noise when blending like the plastic ones,  they do not absorb the smell of  what is inside them like plastic blenders too and they are easier to clean. Plastic blenders have the advantage of being light and are cheaper most times but they can get scratched and may also absorb the smell of what is put inside for blending. They may also not be to cope with the heat of soup or sauce put in them.
Power
Power is another consideration. Blenders have different power features , some have higher speed than others and those with high power rating  usually work better than the ones with lower ones. There are heavy duty types with high power  that can do many things in the kitchen and even crush ice.
Cost / prices
The type and capacity also determines the price. Those which perform multiple functions are usually more expensive.  Generally, the more functions rather than speeds, that a jar blender has, the higher the cost.
