Preparations are in top gear as the city of Kano sets to host the 2018 African Indigenous languages film festival.
The maiden film exhibition is organized to promote African films and its diverse rich cultures in the global market.
The following are the highlights of what you need to know about the film festival.
· It is the first-time stakeholders in movie industry in West Africa would be brought together to brainstorm and share ideas on emerging trends in film making business.
· It is a five-day long event scheduled to hold from October 23rd to October 27th, 2018 in the ancient city of Kano.
· The exhibition was meant to create a platform for repackaging the narratives about Africa as woven by the international media outlets for global consumption.
· To position African films into a formidable platform that can promote Africa, Africans and anything about Africa to the global community. The festival is an avenue through which Africa films can penetrate the global market.
· The festival would promote city of Kano and the rich culture of Hausa man being the host for the five-day long exhibition.
· There will also be Kano city tour so that participants can see the cultural heritage of the city and also make them understand and appreciate the tourism potential of the state.
· In the course of the film exhibition, there would be a workshop in which papers would be presented on the theme ‘contextualizing African indigenous language film: the past, the present and the future’ based on the papers presented at the workshop a book would be packaged to be a reference material in the future.
· There would be a master classes on four key areas of film making with seasoned international scholars proposed to lead each of the sessions.
· The festival would feature activities like African kitchen to promote African food, African drinks and African snacks.
· On the first day of the event, Kano state government would host the dinner to welcome the participants and during that dinner they could interact with government so that they could understand what Kano is all about and may be the investment opportunities available in the state so that it can catch in to attract foreign investment.
· There would be a session for award presentations in three categories. The award winners would be presented not only trophies and certificates but also prizes which would be given in Dollars. The best feature film will go home with $13, 500, the best shot film $7, 500, while the best documentary film will go home with $3, 500.
