In view of the killings across the world by “Islamic State” (IS) and other terrorist groups, it is important to note that Islam forbids killing not sanctioned by the approved and recognised authority–the government.
Books like Usuul Al-Sunnaah of Imaam Ahmaad bn Hanbali, Sharh Al-Sunnah of Al-barbahaary and many others are replete with commands of Islam to Muslims to always respect any constituted authority and to desist from indiscriminate killing of people.
Muslims were commanded to give their loyalty to whoever becomes a leader over them, not minding the manner through which he came to power.
Shaykh Abdul-Azeez Bn Baaz, the former Mufti of Saudi Arabia (May Allaah have mercy on him) said, while reacting to a terrorist attack in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in November 1995: “There is no doubt that this act can only be undertaken by one who does not believe in Allah or the Final Day. You will not find anyone who believes in Allah, or the Last Day, with correct and sound faith, performing this criminal, vile act due to which great harm and corruption has occurred. Only vile souls which are filled with enmity, jealousy, evil, corruption and absence of faith in Allah and His Messenger can perform the likes of these acts.”
“Those who perform the likes of this are more deserving of being killed and restrained on account of what they have committed of great sin.”
Also, Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin Al-Abbaad, , another senior scholar in Saudi Arabia, said, while reacting to series of suicide bombings that rocked the country in 2003: “Indeed, that which has occurred from suicide bombings and destruction in the city of Riyadh and whatever was discovered as a result of that from weapons and explosives in Makkah and Madeenah in the earlier part of this year (2003), then it is all the end result of being misled by Shaytan (Satan) and his beautification of excessiveness and extremism for those who were responsible for that. And what is more disgraceful is that Shaytaan beautifies these as Jihaad for the one who carries them out?”
As said by the duo of Shaykhs Ibn Baaz and Al-Abbaad, Islam is against terrorism and corruption. Islam is established upon mercy, justice, mutual love and concern for rectifying the earth with its people. Islam, therefore, forbids causing destruction to life and property.
