Hyundai Nigeria recently showcased the All New Hyundai Accent as part of the media launch of the All-New Palisade into the Nigerian market to the excitement of auto enthusiasts.
The launch event was a major step towards deepening visibility of the Hyundai brands in Nigeria.
At least five brands were on display in addition to the signature Hyundai Palisade, the Hyundai’s flagship SUV, positioned to elevate the brand’s presence in the premium segment.
However for the Hyundai Accent, the entry-level sedan category is now poised for a comeback, combining modern styling, updated technology, and practical performance.
At its core, the Accent remains a compact sedan designed for everyday usability. Dimension-wise, it measures 4,535 mm in length, 1,765 mm in width, and 1,475 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,670 mm. These proportions give it a slightly more refined and spacious look compared to earlier versions, while maintaining the compact footprint that made it popular in urban environments. Ground clearance is rated at 165 mm, offering enough height to handle typical city road conditions.
The vehicle will ride on either 15-inch or 16-inch wheels, depending on the variant. Tire options include 185/65 and 205/55, suggesting a balance between comfort and improved road grip.
Under the hood, the Hyundai Accent is expected to feature a 1.5-liter gasoline engine. While full specifications are yet to be officially disclosed, the engine is projected to deliver sufficient performance for both city commuting and highway driving, with a reported top speed of around 190 km/h. This setup reflects a focus on reliability and efficiency rather than outright sportiness.
Design is one of the most noticeable upgrades in the new Accent. The exterior includes angular body lines, a distinctive “Horizon” LED positioning lamp, and parametric connected LED tail lamps that stretch across the rear. A rear spoiler adds a sporty touch, enhancing its road presence.
Inside, the sedan is expected to offer a more premium feel than its predecessors. Features available in other markets include leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and a smart electric sunroof. The infotainment system ranges from 8 inches to a larger 10.25-inch display, depending on the trim level, and supports modern connectivity options. A wireless charging pad further enhances convenience for tech-savvy users.
Despite the growing popularity of SUVs, the return of the Accent suggests that Hyundai Motor Company still sees value in the compact sedan segment. The model’s previous success as a reliable and economical vehicle gives it a strong foundation for a comeback.
