Speaking to newsmen recently in Birnin Kebbi, the Programme Manager, Kebbi State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KARDA), Alhaji Yahaya Haruna Jega, said the exercise is to boost cereal farming in the state.
According to Alhaji Jega, “the state, as one of the leading rice producing states, would equally want to take lead in wheat production, that is why we want to empower our teeming farmers to cultivate the cereal crop, and we will assist them with techniques and all the necessary inputs. The exercise would soon commence.
“Farmers have already been sensitised on the government’s intention towards improving their living standard through agriculture. Similarly, many programmes and initiatives aimed at boosting agricultural production are underway.
“Already, fertilizers, pesticides and improved seeds and seedlings have been procured for distribution to dry season farmers, while cassava and other edible crops’ farmers were not left behind in the state agricultural transformation agenda,” he said.
