It was a night of glitz and glamour as Nigerian star afro musician Skales, alongside other Abuja upcoming acts, took the stage, singing their words of encouragement for the internally displaced persons residing in Abuja camps at a concert which recently took place at the Sky Lounge, Abuja.
The drop concert was organized by the Fashion for Charity (FFC), a group of young fashion designers as well as entrepreneurs residing in Abuja, who had it all worked out as residents came out en masse with various gift items which will later be transferred to various IDP camps in the FCT.
Co-founder of the FFC group, Jeffery Bent, who spoke with Daily Trust, said the idea behind the concert was to remind people about the existence of these IDPs residing in camps that could be located within and on the outskirts of the city.
He said: “In order for us to get the public to assist them, we decided to organize a free concert where we brought in artistes to perform and as they come in to witness the event, they bring along gift items for the IDPs no matter how small. These will later be taken to their various camps for distribution.”
Asked why the group decided to feature Skales, he said: “It was easy for us to bring Skales because his background is Kaduna State and he is also touched by the cases of insurgency ravaging the North.”
Bent also said that the group hopes to bring in Praise, another star artiste soon.
Jonas Schwarz Lausten, co-owner of Nordic Hotel, Abuja, who was one of the sponsors of the concert, said he was pleased to be a part of the initiative.
“Where I come from, we believe in helping people. I am from Denmark and charity is a big thing as well as fashion and it goes hand-in-hand with our concept,” he said.
