The exhibition tagged: “The Art of Friendship: Art From the East, the West and Africa”, is jointly organised by the National Gallery of Arts and the embassies of the Republic of Korea, France, Spain and Italy, opened on Thursday June 28 and featured an amazing number of art works from the participating countries.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, which is being hosted at the Korean Cultural Centre in Abuja, the minister of Culture and Tourism, Chief Edem Duke, represented by Mr. Seyi Oluwaju, praised the commitment of the various embassies to the unique project and said his ministry was pleased that such an event is taking place in Nigeria.

The Korean ambassador to Nigeria HE Mr, Choi Jung-hyun, whose embassy is hosting the exhibition, said they decided to have the event as a way of demonstrating that “art has no boundaries.”

In their various speeches, the Ambassadors of Italy Spain and France expressed their delight at being part of what they all described as a “unique collaboration” aimed at improving relations between the peoples of the various countries.

The exhibition is featuring works from 11 Nigerian artists, seven Koreans, four French, one Italian and three intangible heritages from the Kingdom of Spain.

One of the featured artists, Italian painter Olga Prokopenko Del Pio said she is excited to be featured in the exhibition saying, “There is so much satisfaction in showcasing your works and this is something I’ve always loved doing since when I was a child.”

The exhibition runs until the 7th of July.
