Within a short period, the palace was filled with well-wishers, praise singers and traditional musicians dressed in colourful traditional regalia and chanting praises for the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, and other top palace officials.
According to one of the palace staff, the gathering was seen as one of its memorable moments in recent time. The assertion could not be farther from the truth as diplomats, top government officials, politicians and people from different walks of life attended the event.
The people of Kano State, especially, cannot forget the year 2014 in a hurry, because it is the year that brought them sweet and bitter memories in that year. Bayero, who ruled the ancient city for five decades died; it is also in the same year that the Tijjani Hashim died.
The year also ushered in a new emir emerged and saw the elevation of other traditional title holders and appointment of others to traditional roles.
However, the death of the powerful and influential Galadiman Kano had shocked the people of the ancient city of Kano. His exit had created a vacuum in the traditional institution, as the late Galadima was noted for his connections and influence within and outside Nigeria.
However, when the news of the emirate council’s decision to turbaned the late Galadima’s son as the new Dan Isa was made public, many jubilated and opined that the late Galadima’s humanitarian gestures and other virtues, that were thought to have gone with him, were now being recovered.
As part of the traditional rites involved in turbaning ceremonies, the new title holder sat on a local mat, while palace officials dressed him up. He was then taken before the emir for a formal pronouncement of his traditional title.
The appointment of young Hashim as Dan Isa has been regarded by many as deserving, considering his lineage and family history.
In his remarks at the event, the Emir of Kano, Sanusi II, advised the newly turbaned Dan Isan Kano, who is also the district head of Warawa, to use his exposure and experience to ensure effective development of his people, while praying God to guide and protect him.
Alhaji Kabir Tijjani Hashim is the first male son of late Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Tijjani Hashim. Born on April 1966, young Kabiru received his early Islamic education in Kabara quarters, situated in the central city of Kano.
He started his Western education at Gidan Makama Primary School, before proceeding to Barewa College in 1984. In 1994 he bagged a BA in Business Administration.
