When will Ganduje appoint youths?

Since the inauguration of the President and governors in 2015, the president and many other governors appointed so many young Nigerians into different positions with the conviction of giving them a chance in the cabinet.

Before the 2019 general elections, #NotTooYoungToRun bill was signed into law to give the youth opportunities to participate in leadership.

It was a celebrated feat and an unprecedented move seen by many as a triumph of the struggles to get recognised by a law of the country.

Now, the formation of cabinet is underway with high expectations of having more young people as commissioners in so many states,  since we already have young State Assembly Speakers in some states.

In Kano state, the story seems to be different as almost 100% of the appointments by governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje thus far have been taken by the unretiring old flock with near or no representation of youth in the cabinet or even in his personal aides.

As a young man from the state, the question that normally comes to mind is: is there no qualified young people in the state to hold particular position that can bring development to the state?

So far, statistics shows that Kano state have the highest number of youths with PhDs, though I know most of them were beneficiary of former governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s education policy which is currently the bone of contention between the two gladiators.

Governor Ganduje, your fight with your predecessor should not affect the hundreds of thousands of educated young Kano indigenes who should also  learn and have practical leadership  knowledge of the state just like their counter parts in other states.

Mr. Governor, let us forget your fight with the Emir of Kano, which is also affecting the mood and psychology of the state,  though we thank God for enlightenment of Kano youths who did not use that to cause violence or burn public infrastructures in the state.

These should have shown you that they can be part of the government to contribute their quota for the development of the state, so why not appoint those qualified and loyal to your government?

You might not know but currently the issue of political thuggery known as “Daba” is back with full force in the state.

Many NGOs are planning to hold some awareness rallies but for the fear of thugs’ infiltration they shelved the plan.

As you are planning to form your cabinet, I hope you consider educated, qualified young Kano people who can discharge their duties very well that will make our Kano great again.
