However, in Benue State, the government has being so lackadaisical about the education at the primary school level. This is because, teachers of the state-owned primary schools in Benue have been on strike for more than eight months now, but all Governor Gabriel Suswam is after is his plans, strategies or tactics for 2015 coming general elections as his ambition is to run for a senatorial seat against Senator Barnabas Gemade who is also having the same ambition.
If Governor Suswam should think properly, he would have known that addressing the problem of primary schools’ teachers so as to enable them go back to classes is one of the major things that could make people vote for him in 2015 to be a senator, not through money politics.
Governor Suswam should be reminded that the provision of education for the people of Benue State is one of his responsibilities; it is not something that the people of the state have to beg him for. Therefore, as a matter of necessity and obligation, let him start doing what he suppose to do that can send primary schools’ teachers back to classes peacefully without victimization.
It is time to remind our leaders of their duties and responsibilities to us without fear of any harassment, intimidation or persecution. What is right must be done to end the ongoing strike of the primary schools’ teachers in Benue State that has lasted nearly a year now. Enough is enough!
