Women from diverse fields of endeavour, last week, met in Sokoto State to chart their way forward.
The gathering, organised by the Freedom for Life Initiative (FFLI) under the theme ‘#Africa4her’, attracted female lecturers, doctors, police officers, journalists, lawyers, pharmacists, entrepreneurs and students among others.
The event provided a platform for sharing of information on scholarships, fellowships, mentorship and networking opportunities, best practices, education and experiences for women to develop their leadership skills and advance their career opportunities and accelerate national development.
A lecturer with the Department of History, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Dr Aisha Umar, who moderated the event, said that women had played vital roles in the development of the society.
She said women needed support and encouragement to maximise their potentials.
While saying that mentorship was critical to career success, Aisha pointed out that professional women were better placed to understand issues affecting their female colleagues and to advise them.
The forum also brainstormed on the role of women in bridging gender gap.
Speaking earlier on the objective of the forum, founder of Freedom For Life Initiative, Sani Dantuni Bello, said: “It was established to enhance women’s professional growth by providing information on coaching career paths, existing opportunities and creating networking opportunities platform for women in diverse professions.”
He said it also aimed at engendering national development.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of scholarship and fellowship opportunities for women in various fields.
Dr Chioma Achi of the Centre for Advanced Medical Research and Training, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, urged participants to tap into the opportunities to enhance their professional growth.
