The convenience and the capacity of railway system to move people and large number of goods around make it more desirable in our kind of society.
Sometimes ago, the governors of Cross River, Benue, Taraba and Adamawa states, came up with ambitious plans to construct rail lines across these four states. Then, it was a very welcome development as this was viewed as a means of providing not only even development in these areas but foster stronger relationship between these states and their people.
Sadly however, as we await this laudable project to come on stream, nothing is being heard of it anymore. More worrisome is the fact that the serving administrators of these states that brought about this noble idea will soon quit the saddle of leadership of their respective states, yet this wonderful concept is apparently not on the drawing board.
Whatever is withholding this project should be looked into with very serious concern, be it legislation, finance etc.
These states should be encouraged to develop this project into completion. This is necessary because this project will not only serve as a morale booster to other states of the country to emulate this idea by embarking on similar programmes, it will generate economic activities and create employment for our teaming youths, enable people and goods to be moved around far more easily and foster socioeconomic ties with the people of these areas and the country in general.
