The mixed political atmosphere in Nigeria is getting beyond the control of the ruling party, the APC as well as the opposition PDP. 

While the ruling party is confronted by its members who want to change the party’s leadership structure or hierarchy at all costs and at all levels, the PDP is left in the dark as to which section of the country, North or South will produce the presidential candidate for 2023! 

Both parties have faced serious internal leadership crises. The way forward for the two and more other parties is to adhere strictly to the provisions of their respective constitution. 

Constitutionally, there is no provision in the country’s democratic process to zone the presidency. Thus, it is left for the political parties to declare the intention of doing so or entrench it in their parties’ constitutions. 

As the APC is aware and is expected to oblige and respect the zonal presidential arrangement to the Southern part of the country, the PDP is at crossroads waiting for heaven to fall before they determine the position of the zonal arrangement for the presidency. 

Though, PDP has zoned its chairmanship to the North, some leaders from the zone are still eyeing the presidential seat as we were made to understand from the statement of its recently elected Chairman from the North, Senator Iyorchia Ayu. 

On the other hand, the APC Reconciliation Committee has gone deep into its assignment experiencing or encountering the usual traditional disagreement from the aggrieved members who wanted to change the leadership structure at both local and state levels of the ruling party. 

It’s obvious the committee had an onerous task to consolidate and resolve the differences among the members and leaders of the party who constituted the original merger of the APC. 

Equally important, the selection or election of members contesting different positions from the State Houses of Assembly to Presidency for the 2023 general election must be in conformity with the equitable standards followed as highlighted above. 

On the other hand, the PDP is struggling to put its house in order with a view to sending the APC government packing from the Government Houses as well as the Presidential Villa it once occupied for 16 years. 

At the moment, the PDP Governors appeared to have owned and possessed the party into their pockets. To determine who, what or how all belong to the PDP Governors. 

The 2023 general elections will determine another trend in our political dispensation.
