In Edo State, the National Youth Service Corps does not have a permanent orientation camp.

The 2017 Batch A Stream II Corp members are camped at Okada Grammar School in Ovia North East Local Government Area.

Daily Trust learnt that as soon as a date is fixed for any NYSC orientation exercise, the school would hurriedly embark on emergency examinations and holidays to enable corps members make use of the facilities. 

Meanwhile, the permanent orientation camp, which is also located in Okada, is about 70 per cent completed.

Our reporter who visited the Okada Grammar School camp observed that the corps members were using pit toilet facilities. 

A corp member who spoke to our reporter said though the facilities were not too good, but they had to manage what was available.

“You have so many people in a room where there is no fan because it is classrooms we are using,” she lamented.

“As you can see, we are too many and it is not easy taking care of such crowd. But we eat three times daily, though it may not taste as one would have wanted. 

“Now we are using pit toilets. I would say they are fair because cleaners are always working on them trying to make sure that they are okay whenever they are messed up. But we are supposed to be using water system facilities,” she said.

Officials of Okada Grammar School declined to comment, saying that they needed permission from NYSC before speaking with the press.

It would be recalled that that the Edo State NYSC Coordinator, Abdullahi Yusuf Baba, had during the swearing in, appealed to the state government to complete the orientation camp.
