I had known that Mohammed is close to one of the persons aspiring to become governor of Borno State under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hence it was easy for a person who understands the undercurrent of the politics to position his point of view. He is entitled to his opinion, but when an academician makes an allegation it must be substantiated by verifiable facts and figures.
In the article, Mohammed alleged that some elements in the state gave cash to some political figures, but he did not support this allegation with any documents, like photographs of money exchanging hands, cheques, audio recording, etc. If he was so sure, he should have provided the evidence of funds changing hands.
Mohammed should appreciate the fact that the Almighty has bestowed upon him the knowledge to impart and impact future generations positively, not only in Maiduguri, Borno, Nigeria, Africa but in the Diaspora, not because he is the best, but because of his mercies and he should never abuse that privilege. Not for wealth, power, love or favours.
I do hope he is familiar with the story of Abraham Lincoln who led America out of the American civil war, brought an end to slavery, and was twice an unsuccessful candidate for election into the U.S Senate, before becoming president in 1860.
Possibly, he should also know that the gubernatorial flag bearer in both the 2003 and 2007 elections, whom he tagged as creator of PDP’s “misfortunes”, emerged from the unanimous agreement of the party members. At least, the party members are not blind to see the dangers inherent, or did the party members also, collect money from top officials of Borno government?
Please, Mohammed should not get me wrong. He is quite entitled to his opinion but not at the cost of slandering others for an unjust cause. The style he adopted in selling his candidate is rather antiquated. Bornolites are enlightened politically and will strongly resist any attempt to insult their sensibilities as Mohammed intended with his maudlin views.
