True, the security situation in Nigeria is appalling. Individually, prominent Nigerians have called on Jonathan to be up and doing about real security threats. Among them were the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubaka and the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero. Joining in sounding security alarm is a former Inspector General of Police, Gambo Jimeta who warned that if care is not taken, we as a nation might wake up one day not to find in place an ideal police force. Now that is anarchy in the waiting for us. This latest weapon import may as well represent just that.

We are afraid of the situation as far as this arm import is concerned. We need Jonathan to give us confidence that the country is not under threat. And this is not by keeping quiet. Now is the time to really talk, and talk and act tough and decisively for that matter in the interest of peace-loving Nigerians.

If anybody has any grievances against the corporate existence of Nigeria, such grievances do not have to be made through war, because it is only at war time that such weapons are actually stockpiled. The founding fathers of the nation from different parts of the country resolved whatever differences they had before we achieved our independence. And it was based on dialogue. There was no war. So anybody who feels aggrieved, dialogue remains the best and only option of resolving such grievances. Armed conflict is not an option at all. The Nigerian civil war orchestrated by a secessionist agenda has proven that armed conflict is a bad option to achieve such ambition.

The polity is already heated by the campaign activities of Jonathan and General Ibrahim Babangida with other presidential aspirants. This arm import has made that one a child’s play. Jonathan, as the President, must reassure Nigerians that we are safe within the next 48 hours if we must trust and believe the promise he once made to the nation that security is a top priority for his administration.
