It will not be news to you anymore, the contribution of Nupe people in the historical development of what we have as Nigeria today.  A closer examination of the objective of the movement would make us raise certain questions on the readiness of the entire Nupeland for the emergence of Edu State. Nupeland, as we all know, has played host to so many industries from the pre-colonial, colonial and contemporary economy of Nigeria. Some of these include the Nupe brass, glass, iron and textile industries, among many others. But today these industries have become nightmares, as most of them are not functional and the ones that are functional are almost collapsing.

One very fundamental question I would like to pose to the movement is that can they say sincerely that the structures on ground would be efficient and effective for the smooth running of the state? Would we want a state to be created and depend on the petro dollar economy? Would we want a state to be created with a large number of unemployed youths waiting for employment? Are we going to be looking forward to a state with a backward agriculture growth and development? Would we want a state with poor infrastructure?

I think we would have to be sincere with ourselves in the actualization of these goals. I am not standing against the creation of the state, no. Rather, my candid view remains that we must look beyond the discourse of the creation of Edu State and seek measures of ensuring that the glory of Kin Nupe is restored, then we can move for state-creation.
