Who will head School of Hygiene Kano?

School of Hygiene Kano [now College of Health Science and Technology] is the oldest health institution in the north that produces many health practitioners whom directly or indirectly shapes the health services delivery in various capacities across the nation.

The school currently runs over 12 different courses which are all accredited by various regulatory bodies; runs degree program in affiliation with University of Ibadan; and more programs are on the way in collaboration with other institutions of higher learning, all geared towards providing adequate and resourceful manpower in the health sector.

Now that the current Provost is about to retire, to maintain the current trend, whoever would take over after him should be a person that is academically sound and equal to the task in placing the school in the league of ‘the best’ in all aspect.

Base on this, it is desirable that the current Deputy Provost [Admin] in the person of Bashir Bala Getso should be considered, for he knows the inside out of the school, and will do his best to continue from where his predecessor stop. He has the experience, exposure, commitment and dedication, more so age is on his side.

Bashir Bala was member/secretary of the school examination committee; member, school admission committee; member school management committee; assistant chief examination officer; deputy chief examination officer; head of department, nutrition and dietetics; chief examination officer; acting vice principal [academic]; and now deputy provost [admin]. He also work as state facilitator for Roll Back Malaria in distributing insecticide net in Shanono local government area, 2009; state facilitator for Integrated Management of Child Illness [IMCI] in Nassarawa/Fagge local government, 2009; member Kano state Eye care plan; and many more.

He is also member of various professional association and fellowship, like Society of Environmental and Public Health Practitioners of Nigeria, Health Educators Practitioners of Nigeria, Environmental Health Officers Association Of Nigeria, and many more.

Bashir had National and Higher National Diploma in environmental health from school of hygiene, Kano, 1998, Post graduate diploma in education, Bayero University, Kano, 2005, BSc Health Education from University of Maiduguri, 2015, MSc Environmental health, Maryam Abacha American University of Niger, 2017, and currently pursuing PhD in Maryam Abacha American University Of Niger.
