Why a daycare center would benefit BUK students

Bayero University is among the top ten best universities in Nigeria today. People who knew BUK some ten years ago, would surely get lost if they attempted to explore it today. Not only have the buildings increased, but also the number of academic programs and the number of students and lecturers. BUK today also boasts of many professors. In fact, you could find a single department with up to ten professors.
One interesting thing about today’s BUK is that there is an increase in the number of female lecturers, some departments have up to seven, including female professors. There is also a dramatic increase in female students’ enrolment, even in conventionally all male departments like Engineering; there is a strong female presence today.
Unfortunately, the management of BUK has not made any provision to support women by providing them with conducive atmosphere to work and learn. What I mean here is that BUK despite its size and accomplishments have not found it fit to have at least two daycare centres where staff and students with babies can keep their babies when they are at work or in class. Where female lecturers have the advantage of being on campus or living in either of the two main campuses, female students are left with no option but to come along with their nannies to school, and end up making noise in the University mosque at the Administrative site or along corridors of the lecture halls.
This we feel, is a serious setback for a first class university like BUK. As a former student of BUK, who had very bad experiences of learning with a baby, I find it necessary to draw the attention of the University management to provide daycare services on the two main campuses. They can learn from their sister institution, the Federal College of Education Kano. I am sure a father can learn from his son.
