The Permanent Secretary, Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Olusade Adesola has cautioned schools principals and heads in FCT not to engage in any form of book piracy.

 He disclosed this at the FCT Annual Book Fair  organized by the Education Resource Center, Abuja.

 He described book piracy as hydra-headed monster that poses serious harm to education system and robing authors and writers of their hard-earned reward and exclusive intellectual property.

 Mr. Adesola also lamented the decline in the reading culture occasioned by many factors such as the advent of new media.

 Speaking on the strides achieved by the FCTA on educational,  the  perm sec said, “Some of the giant strides and landmark achievements recorded in the ERC which include timely conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and other examinations under its supervision, prompt release of results and issuance of certificates for presentation anywhere required in line with the 9:3:4 educational policy rather than reliance on primary school testimonials.’’

 In her remarks, the Director of the FCT Education Resource Centre, Hajiya Neemat Abdulrahim, said since its inception, the FCT Book Fair had recorded appreciable increase in the number of participating publishers and book sellers.
