The inability of the authorities of the FCDA to connect some areas within the city to the central sewage system is responsible for the bleeding manholes currently being experienced in various parts of the city.
Joe Ukairo, Head, Media and Outreach Unit of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) told Daily Trust in a mail: “Some areas of the city have not been fully integrated hence bleeding manhole problems will be encountered from time to time. I mentioned Gudu, Gaduwa, Durumi and some parts of Apo to be among the areas yet to be fully integrated.
“The engineering department builds the infrastructure in the FCT and hands over to us to provide services. As I speak now, the integration work of Gudu, Durumi and Gaduwa is still being worked on by the FCDA engineering department. And the intermittent bleeding will continue until that project is completed. Wuye as it is today has not been connected. They are permitted to use soak way until the project of networking and closing of gaps are completed,” he added.
