ASUU members, armed with intellect, confronted the federal government with facts and figures of the agreement reached during the strike period, union president Dr. Nasir Isa Fagge  said in Lagos at the  weekend.
Fagge spoke at the 3rd Joint Action Front (JAF) Congress, vowing that ASUU will not rest on its oars in improving education and quality of lecturers in the nation’s tertiary institutions. He said ordinarily his members would not have embarked on the last strike if the government had given tertiary education desired attention.
The ASUU President expressed worries on growing unemployment and poverty in Nigeria and Africa in general and said there must be increased awareness on the need to use education to defeat the ills.
He said in spite of its wealth, over 70 percent of Nigerians leave in poverty, whereas a country like Brazil with little wealth has been able to push over 70percent of its population above poverty line.
He emphasized the need for Nigerians to be cautious of the Breton Wood institutions in their midst, saying such agents do not mean well for the country.
Speaking, Chairman of JAF and former president of ASUU, Dr. Dipo Fashina emphasized the need for Nigerians to rise up against vestiges of neo-colonialism and their agents in the country.
He said the rule in Nigeria is a rule of class in the interest of the rich and the western powers and their agents.
