The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has said the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has what it takes to defeat the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, in the South East in the next year’s polls.

A spokesman of the campaign council, Charles Aniagwu, said the turn-out for the PDP presidential rally in Anambra and Imo states showed that the party has what it takes to come out on top in the South East geopolitical zone. 

In an interview on Arise Television, Aniagwu said the PDP was still very popular in the South East and urged Nigerians to support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, to rescue the nation from its present woes. 

He said, “That a man comes from somewhere does not mean he may not be defeated and I may need to take you back to 1993, if you could recall Bashir Tofa and Moshood Abiola. Tofa was from Kano and Abiola from Ogun State in the South West, but Abiola defeated him in Kano.

“Atiku is not just speaking and making promises; his chances both in the South East and elsewhere in the country are far brighter than even the northern star and that is on the basis of his pedigree in time past.”

Similarly, the PDP Presidential Campaign Committee in Anambra State has said after Atiku had flagged off his campaign in the state, opponents became jittery over the massive turn-out.

The committee in a statement by the Deputy Director of Media and Publicity for the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign, Anambra State, Mr Uloka Chukwubuikem, said Anambra people have once again reaffirmed their love for Atiku and support for the PDP.
