According to Eze Ogbonna, despite the sustained sensitization campaign as well as the introduction of the E- Marshal unit by the Ministry of Environment in the state, Aba residents appear bent on blocking the drainages.
Eze Ogbonna said that residents were fond of dumping refuse into drainages, a development responsible for the perennial flood in the state.
He said, “Despite the daunting challenges in ensuring a healthy environment, the state government will not relent in her determination to open up all blocked drainages in Aba and Umuahia to enhance the free flow of water as well as ensure durability of constructed roads”.
On the stoppage of contractors handling the desilting of drainage in Umuahia and Aba, he explained that the contract was aborted to harmonize mode of payment.
He advised residents of the state to contribute their quote in ensuring the progress of the initiative by the state government.
