Governor Nasir el-Rufai has approved six months tenure extension for administrators of College of Education, Gidan Waya and Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria.
The rector of the polytechnic, Professor Shehu Dalhat and the college Provost, Emmanuel Joseph Chom, couldn’t be booted out following a proposal from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, which commended them for successfully implementing the white paper report on the visitation panels to their respective institutions.
According to a statement by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Samuel Aruwan, during the six-month extension, the two administrators are expected to complete the engagement of principal officers and the recruitment of additional academic staff to fill identified gaps.
The statement also noted that they are expected to finalize the accreditation of some academic programmes by the relevant agencies, produce condition and scheme of service for the schools as well as complete the general restructuring of the institutions.
“It is apparent that the two professors have brought their wealth of administrative and professional experience to bear in the running of their institutions. Professor Shehu Dalhat has worked tirelessly to foster collaborations between the polytechnic and other organizations.
“Also, Professor Emmanuel Chom of the College of Education, Gidan Waya has successfully addressed all the abandoned TETFUND projects from 2010/2012 and accessed the backlog of 2013/2016 allocations to fast-track infrastructural development in the school,” the statement read.
