Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to come to the aid of his state and get rid of the prevailing banditry.

The governor made the appeal Tuesday while addressing State House reporters after a meeting with the president on the security situation in his state.

He said banditry persisted despite all efforts being made to end the criminal activities of the bandits. 

The governor said the state had requested more military personnel and equipment to enable them to function effectively to tackle the current security situation.

According to him, “Zamfara has become the center of banditry as we speak today, and if nothing is done in Zamfara State, I don’t think we will be able to solve the situation in the entire Northern Nigeria.” 

He noted that the abducted Kuriga school children in Kaduna State and other victims of banditry were recovered from Zamfara, adding that there was need to be more proactive to change the narratives.

Meanwhile, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has said mass abductions especially of school children have not been heard of in the state because the Safe School Initiative has been on for the past seven to eight years.
