What really influenced your decision to produce Fulfulde movies?

You see, most of the movies we are having are in English, Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa. And we are all aware that Fulanis are vulnerable to a lot of social vices and other worrisome situations. The Fulanis constitute a greater percentage of the Nigerian population and that of Africa. And it will interest you to know that there are many Fulanis that do not understand a word of Hausa language and that negates the assertion that all Fulanis understand Hausa language.

The Fulanis usually miss out on issues like HIV, cholera, cancer and their causes, maternal and child mortality among other things. And I see it as a point of duty to do something that will create awareness among the Fulanis on these issues.

Similarly I have plans to produce displacement movies that will address the Fulani/Farmers’ clash that has gradually become the order of the day in many parts of Nigeria and Central Africa. And I have been doing everything alone without anybody’s assistance since 2001, but I believe many will come to realize what I am doing sooner or later and join me in the struggle.

How do you get your cast?

I get my cast from Nigeria, Cameroun and Gabon. I organize audition sessions for them and those that are selected will then be trained. However, those trained will also undergo various retraining sessions in order to achieve professionalism.

I am the only existing Fulfulde movie promoter now, and my first movie, ‘Jagaje’ was a success because people thought I was going to fail but I did not. Moreover, I was successful in establishing a Fulfulde movie industry called ‘Sahibul Kwasam’.

Thank God now we have more than 87 movies in the market and they are doing very well. We have received commendations from various organizations within and outside Nigeria.

Now that elections into the various offices of the Actors Guild of Nigeria is approaching, do you see any sign of positive change in the calibre of the candidates?

This is the problem we have been facing not only as an organization but also as a nation. We always tend to shy away from our responsibilities as stakeholders and expect a miracle to happen, this is not possible.

In every region, the AGN has a Vice President that oversees activities of its members in that region, therefore we have to look at who and who will best represent us and protect our interest in the industry. For instance now the AGN in the North-West wouldn’t have been possible without people like Salihu Othman Isa a.k.a Hot Man.

This particular individual has done a lot in harmonizing the AGN and the Kannywood, he is also behind a lot of success stories in the industry. Hot Man did all this when he is just an ordinary member  of the guild. Imagine if he is given a mandate? I believe he will do better than what he did as an ordinary member. This is the type of people we need, people who have been within the system and understand the system very well.

Where do you see the Fulfulde movie industry in the next five years?

Honestly, with good leadership, I see a prosperous industry that can compete with any other industry in Africa. Fulfulde movie industry has come to say, and we are doing all that we can to see that it stays.
