Why I joined Kwali chairmanship race – Ex-Airforce officer

A retired Air Force officer, Mohammed Haruna Pai, has said his decision to join the chairmanship race of Kwali Area Council is to create job opportunities for youths and boost agriculture in the area.

Pai, who is running on PDP platform, told our reporter, yesterday, in Kwali that his administration would be more committed to agriculture, adding that 80 percent of the people of Kwali were peasant farmers but lacked support and encouragement from the present administration of the council.

He said he would establish a farmers market at Gada Biyu village, so that farmers who were into rain-fed cropping and dry season farming could sell their produce easily.

“In fact, if I am given the mandate, we shall establish a farmers’ market because that is one of the key areas that the present APC-led administration has failed to give attention.

“Farmers at Gada Biyu community alone can feed the whole of Abuja, because they are into both rainy season and dry season farming but they lack support from the council,” he said.
