A 28-year-old man, Sadiq Bello, last Friday told an Ejigbo chief magistrate court in Lagos how his girlfriend aroused him but denied him of sex with her.

Bello, who was dragged before the court on a two-count charge of attempted rape and assault, said it was the girl’s refusal to have sex him after arousing him that made him very angry.

“I tore her dress and left her half-nude because I could not bear the torture,” he said.

The prosecutor, Superintendent Kenneth Asibor, told the court that the incident occurred at the home of Sadiq, in Igando, a suburb in Lagos.

Asibor said that Bello had invited the victim, simply identified as Idowu, to his house for a mere visit. “After entertaining her, he then proceeded to start fiddling with her breasts in order to arouse her. The accused was disappointed when all attempts to make the victim succumb to his sexual advances. In anger, the accused proceeded to molest the victim by tearing her dress and leaving her practically nude,” he said.

The prosecutor said Idowu then reported a case of assault at the Igando Police Division, upon which Bello was arrested and detained.

He further stated that at the station, the accused admitted assaulting the victim but argued he was left with no option after she positioned his mind for sex but refused to have it with him.

Bello, however, pleaded not guilty.

The presiding magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, granted Bello bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum, and remanded him in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.

The matter was adjourned till November 21, 2018.
