Shekarau made the disclosure during the opening ceremony of a workshop titled “The Contribution of ICT NGOs Towards the Development of ICT in Kano,” held at the state ICT Park, Kofar Nassarawa, last Tuesday.
He explained that the park was among other things expected to create wealth, employment and boost the revenue drive of the state, adding that huge amounts of both human and material resources invested in the establishment was aimed at that.
The governor said in early 2010, he led a delegation of key government functionaries to reputable ICT companies in the United States which included the Cisco, HP, Google and many IT based companies owned and operated by Nigerians abroad. He said the trip had afforded them the opportunity to strengthen relationships between the state and the high-tech companies.
While describing the workshop as timely as the government was preparing for the commissioning of the park, he expressed optimism that the input from experts would be of great benefit to the park.
In his welcome address, the state’s Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Bashir Shehu Galadanchi, commended the state governor for his commitment towards the realisation of the Kano ICT Park.
Shehu assured that the park would by the Grace of God, be made into a first class ICT center, saying, that could be achieved by inviting experts in the field of information and communication technology to give their inputs in the development of the park.
The commissioner said the aim of the workshop was to bring together experts from both government and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to discuss various issues affecting the development of the park, including its tenancy policy.
