Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafo, has said that mission schools charge higher fees than public schools because of lack of support from government and donor agencies.

Addressing newsmen in Awka, Ezeokafor, who is the proprietor of the Awka Catholic Diocese-owned Peter University, Achina, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, appealed to the federal government to make provisions for subsidy to reduce fees in mission schools.

He said grants would address the high cost of education in schools owned by religious bodies.

“The cost of studying in federal universities is low because they attract more funding from the Federal Government, while state universities are higher due to inadequate funding,” he said.
