A member of the House of Representatives, Micah Jiba, representing Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Bwari Area Council of the FCT, has urged his colleagues to re-consider and approve the demand for a mayoral status for the FCT.

He said such approval would ensure that the people of the FCT were treated equally like other Nigerian citizens and help to strengthen unity and peaceful co-existence.

Jiba, who is the Vice Chairman, House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Auxiliary Matters, while speaking with journalists at the weekend, also stressed that the issues of compensation and resettlement for original inhabitants were handled fairly.

On his stewardship in the lower chamber of the National Assembly, he said, “I have moved about seven to eight motions in the house on things that are affecting FCT and got three bills such as the one seeking conversion of the Technical College, Orozo, to a polytechnic, which has gotten to public hearing at the senate.

“I’m executing plenty of projects, because I’m representing two area councils – AMAC and Bwari, but if the people are complaining that past representatives didn’t do anything, it’s not about me, as the people are clapping that it is now that they got a representative in the house, because they have seen the projects physically on ground.”
