Speaking after he was given an award by Astronomical Society of Nigeria at the National Space Research Development Agency (NASRDA) in Abuja on Thursday, Prof Boroffice said a former Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT virtually turned the agency to his private estate and “ran away with it.”  
He said the country would have gone a little far in its quest to commercialise its satellites if not for bad leadership at NIGCOMSAT.
“Yes we conceived the idea of NIGCOMSAT to be an outlet for space facilities and it supposed to be an integral part of NASRDA but unfortunately somebody took it and ran away with it; with little or no experience either in maintenance of that important and expensive structure or in marketing and that was what led to its problem.”
The immediate past MD of NIGCOMSAT could not be reached yesterday as call made to his mobile line did not go through. But one of his aides who pleaded not to be named accused Prof Boriffice of hypocrisy for choosing to speak now.
“Why hasn’t he disclosed all this when the man was in office? Where was the Professor when some government officials were commending the man. So, to me it is hypocrisy that will make him (Boroffice) to be saying all this now”, the aide told Daily Trust last night.
