Nigeria’s poor technology fraud prevention mechanisms in the financial sector are fuelling corruption, the Chartered Institute of Forensic and Investigative Auditors of Nigeria (CIFIA) has said. The institute said the country needed professionals with relevant skills to put in place sophisticated mechanisms by using science and tech to prevent, detect and expose hidden fraud concealed in financial accounts.

 Disclosing this at a press briefing in Abuja, the CIFIA’s Chief Promoter, Dr Enape Victoria Ayishetu, said frauds were now mostly being perpetrated with the aid of technology as the 21st century digital revolution to commit crimes, adding that forensic auditing is best way to expose them . “It is a statement of fact that as distasteful as it is to hear that our nation Nigeria is rated among countries with very poor prevention fraud records in the world, it is even more worrisome to know that despite the federal government renewed efforts in tackling corruption and financial crimes, very little result has been achieved”, she said.
