Mr. Meredith, who is an English man, said this is so because the standard of education in Nigeria is high.
Speaking at the 6th Graduation Ceremony of the school, Meredith said that in the western world, students “have everything given to them, but here, they have to work for it. They try harder, they work harder, and that is why they achieve more.”
He said: “I would have retired if I were in England, but I am not retiring because I am here. I am enjoying teaching in Nigeria because here, you have students coming to the class because they want to learn.”
On the challenges of students in the 21st century, he said kids in the UK wanted mobile phones, tablets, and all the luxuries of the 21st century, but here, the students wear the same school uniform, they have no mobile phones, no tablets and other luxuries.
“The students here are so disciplined that they don’t allow these devices to distract them,” he added.
He said responsibility, fairness, safety, respect, success and manners were the core values their school had built upon to provide learning and care for the welfare and future of students.
Earlier, the best female graduating student of the Class of 2015, Onyejekwe Augusta Chidinma, who said she would like to study Cardiology in any Nigerian University or abroad, attributed her success to hard work as well as believing in God and herself.
Augusta, who received the Chief Iroche and Rotary awards for the Best Female Student, expressed her delight in coming out the best, saying she was able to ignore distraction and face her studies to achieve the success.
