Alhaji Kyari who is the Chief of Staff to the governor made the observation while speaking to newsmen in Damasak, Mobbar local government area of the state. He said students are not performing credibly due to harsh weather condition in the area.
He therefore appealed to both state and federal governments to change the time of school attendance for the better.
Kyari who is aspiring for the senate come 2015 under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC) explained that “the people of northern part of the state lag behind in western education not because they are incapable but because what exists in the region is wrong approach to teaching and learning.”
He argued that the hot weather in the north is the reason why most Quranic schools adopt the culture of learning at night and early in the morning hours.
“Literacy, simply put, is the ability to read and write. And here in my area we have children and people who can read and write their names in Arabic scripts. When you ask them to write their names in Arabic, they do without any difficulty,” he said.
He called for the reorganization of teaching and learning process to adapt to peculiar environment and situation of the people.
