The Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu, has said the recent decision to exempt prisoners in the country from paying tuition fees was due to the university’s quest to fulfill its corporate social responsibility as well as a shortage of sponsorship offers for inmates.
A statement issued by the institution’s spokesman, Ibrahim Sheme, said Prof. Adamu made the clarification last week during the formal presentation of certificate to Mr. Albert Emmanuel Ajogbor, a NOUN graduate at the Maximum Security Prison, Kirikiri, in Lagos, who earned a B.A. (Hons) in Christian Theology.
