The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has formally inaugurated its 2025 National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC) at an event held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the NEC Hall of the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
The 118-member committee will be chaired by His Excellency, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State. According to political observers, his appointment reflects the PDP’s confidence in his ability to handle critical national political assignments with precision, tact, and excellent results. Over the years, Governor Fintiri has built a reputation as a master strategist and administrator, capable of executing both developmental and political projects. His selection as chairman was therefore a unanimous choice by the PDP leadership and stakeholders.
The 2025 Elective National Convention is scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, from Saturday, November 15, to Sunday, November 16, 2025. It is expected to be one of the most decisive conventions in the party’s history, shaping its strategy, leadership, and organizational strength ahead of the crucial 2027 general elections. Many within and outside the party believe that the Ibadan convention will be pivotal to the PDP’s survival and long-term relevance in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
To ensure broad participation, Governor Fintiri will be assisted by His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, as Vice Chairman, and His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, as Secretary. The wide membership of the committee, drawn from across the country, reflects the PDP’s emphasis on inclusivity, balance, and national representation.

Party leaders and members have expressed confidence that under Governor Fintiri’s stewardship, the convention will be transparent, credible, and well-organized—strengthening the party’s internal democracy and projecting the PDP as a formidable alternative to the ruling party in the build-up to 2027.
FINTIRI: “NO GROUP OR INDIVIDUAL WILL DERAIL THE CONVENTION”
Governor Fintiri, speaking on the sidelines of preparations, emphasized that the unity and success of the PDP remain above personal interests.
“I will not place our relationships above this party,” Fintiri declared. “Let us not take all our matters to the media. It is becoming too embarrassing. If you are a party man, you settle issues within the party. We will not allow indiscipline and blackmail to derail this process.”
His remarks underline his commitment to ensuring that disputes within the PDP are addressed internally rather than publicly, a position many believe is critical to maintaining cohesion ahead of the Ibadan convention.
With Fintiri at the helm, the PDP aims not only to deliver a smooth convention but also to renew its leadership and reposition itself as a stronger political force capable of regaining the trust of Nigerians in 2027.
