‘Why professionals must run aviation to yield positive results’

The National President of the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), has called for strict adherence to aviation practice, noting that only professionals can advance growth and development of the industry.

National President‎, Captain Bunmi Gindeh made the disclosure in Abuja on Tuesday during the inaugural meeting of the Association .

Speaking on some of the challenges in the country, he noted that in Nigeria, has always ran with the idea of putting square pegs in round holes.

“Aviation is a very special and technical industry. It’s having professionals, professional pilots, professional engineers, professional aviators and other eople that have gone to school to read aviation management.

“But I think where we are getting it wrong is when you have a doctor or a military soldier come to run an airline.

“We at NAAPE believe that to run aviation, you need aviators. You will see the difference when an aviator is running it. Versus when a non-aviator runs it,” he added

Speaking on his plans, he said one of his targets is to place Nigerian pilots and engineers on the global map

“I don’t like reinventing the wheel. By saying I don’t like reinventing the wheel, is trying to to start a new thing. I believe if someone has done it before, just look at what they’ve done. For me, I’m seeing us as global because aviation is global. We have 54 pilots that are Nigerians in Lomé currently flying with Aky, we have in Emirates, we have in Qatar. So we’re global. We’re not just Nigeria and I want to project that

“NAAPE is looking at the global space. So whatever we’re doing should have global implications,” he said.

He explained that the formal handing over event provided an avenue for discussion bothering on digitalization of secretariat, as well as modernising the websites as well as mobile app to give ease of access to the union and members.
