The Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, has said the influx of people into Gwagwalada on daily basis was responsible for heaps of refuse all over the place in the area.

Mustapha stated this last Thursday while commenting on his administration’s efforts towards keeping the area council clean.

He said the council had been spending huge amount of money to clear heaps of refuse in the area, but lamented that some residents were still bent on indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

He said the council would soon enact a law to punish those who engaged in indiscriminate dumping of refuse, adding that the council had not rested on its oars to ensure that it collaborates with health and environmental department of the council to evacuate refuse at all designated areas such as at Gwako, Tungan Maje and Zuba and University of Abuja old campus hostel.

“In fact, when we came on board there were schools that the children could not go because of the dirt accumulated on the compounds, until we quickly intervened to clear all such refuse,” he said.

The chairman therefore advised residents to always dump their refuse at collection centres in the area, instead of dumping them by the road side, a situation he said, causeD health hazard to other people.
